March 9, 2018 – Speaker: Dmytro Lavrenych

March 9, 2018 @ 7:30 pm UTC-6

CHANGE OF PROGRAM for MARCH 9, 2018

NEW SPEAKER:

DMYTRO LAVRENCHUK
ATO Veteran and Project Leader, VeteransHUB

March 9, 2018, 6:30

CYM Domivka, 409 9th Ave. N.E.

We have been advised that Mustafa Nayyem will be unable to come to Calgary this Friday, March 9th, as originally planned. In his place, we have been fortunate to secure as speaker Dmytro Lavrenchuk, an ATO veteran and a young man who has put his skills to work in the service of his country – both on and off the battlefield.

A little bit about Dmytro:

With a degree in cultural studies from the Kyiv-Mohyla University, Dmytro found himself drawn into advertising and public relations after graduation.  Recognizing the potential of the internet in this field, he pursued studies in programming and digital marketing. However, with the beginning of the Majdan and the Revolution of Dignity, Dmytro felt he could no longer put his efforts into both career and community work, and made the decision to dedicate himself to community service full time, eventually serving his country as a volunteer in the Ayudar regiment.

Seriously wounded by a landmine in 2014, Dmytro underwent a lengthy period of rehabilitation, after which he threw himself into social innovation projects oriented towards veterans. His projects include a journalism school for veterans (voiceofwar.org), through which a collection veterans’ stories will soon be published, as well as a biotechnology company.

Most of his efforts are now directed towards VeteransHUB (veteranshub.ml), a website which aims to coordinate the efforts of veterans and voluntary organizations, and which has the potential to be applied to other sectors as well. Dmytro is glad to have the opportunity to share his stories and his work with Canadians.
