As one of Canada’s premier actor-comediennes and a long-time performer on Royal Canadian Air Farce, Luba Goy has given so very many of us the precious gift of laughter. Now she gives us a peek into the whirlwind life which brought smiles to so many faces, and also talks about the influences which shaped her growing up in Ottawa’s Ukrainian community.

Luba Goy is an actor and comedienne best known for her work in one of Canada’s most popular and enduring comedy troupes, Royal Canadian Air Farce, with whom she performed first on radio and then on television. A graduate of The National Theatre School of Canada, she also performed at the Stratford Festival. Luba’s one woman play, “Luba, Simply Luba” was produced in Toronto, published, and won the Kobzar Literary Award in 2014. In the play she shares her life’s journey, filled with both comedy and tragedy. Luba has also worked in film and done voice-over, including narrating the award-winning documentary about the forced famine in Ukraine, “HOLODOMOR: Voices of Survivors”.
Luba is a proud Ukrainian who came to Canada in the 1950’s with her family as a refugee and grew up in the Ukrainian community in Ottawa. She has performed countless times at every Ukrainian festival across Canada and the U.S. and has volunteered her time at many Ukrainian fundraising events.
Over a forty year span Luba has won countless awards with Air Farce and on her own, including: A Star on Canada’s Walk of Fame, the Governor General’s Performing Arts Award, the Queen’s Silver Jubilee Medal, a Gemini Humanitarian Award, 15 ACTRA Awards, two Honorary Doctor of Laws Degrees, and the Women in Film and Television Award for Outstanding Achievement.
