Hon. Deron Bilous
Please join us for a wine and cheese with the Hon. Deron Bilous, Alberta Minister of Economic Development and Trade. Minister Bilous will be speaking about his recent trade mission to Ukraine.
One of the primary objectives of Minister Bilous’ trip was the promotion of emerging trade opportunities for Alberta companies created by the Canada-Ukraine Free Trade Agreement (CUFTA), which came into force on August 1, 2017. The trip included attendance at the 20th Annual International Trade Fair of Oil and Gas Industry, in which 10 Alberta companies participated.
The trip resulted in the signing of an MOU with the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD), which will enhance the ability of the Alberta International Development Office to assist Alberta companies and institutions bidding on projects that require home-grown expertise and know-how, particularly in the areas of banking, energy and energy security.
The Minister also renewed sister province MOU’s with Ivano-Frankivsk and Lviv Oblasts.
Deron Bilous was first elected as the Member of the Legislative Assembly for Edmonton-Beverly-Clareview on April 23, 2012, and again on May 5, 2015. He was sworn in as Minister of Economic Development and Trade on October 22, 2015. Prior to this, he served as Minister of Municipal Affairs and as Minister of Service Alberta. Born and raised in Edmonton, and having grown up in a proudly Ukrainian home, Deron Bilous is uniquely positioned to help advance economic ties between Alberta and Ukraine and foster bilateral cooperation which will benefit both parties.
