Taste of Ukraine is back for another year, delivering scrumptious traditional Ukrainian food. This will be the ninth time that chef Halya Haridzuk and her talented helpers concoct a mouthwatering feast to delight your taste buds. Make sure that you don’t miss out on this opportunity to join in a fun evening filled with friends new and old – and delicious Ukrainian food!
An amazing fact about Alberta is that more than 1 in 10 residents is of Ukrainian heritage. Well, we’d like to meet a few more of you, and this year’s Taste of Ukraine event provides the perfect opportunity.
What we want to focus on this year is something that is common to everyone of Ukrainian heritage. That is, we all have or had a Baba (or “Babtsia” or “Babusia”). So we’ve made the theme of this year’s event, I Have a Baba. And to celebrate, we’ve prepared a program that everyone can cherish and enjoy.
A bit of time will be set aside towards the end of our meal for any member or guest to stand up and, in 60 seconds or less, say a few brief words about his or her Babusia. Anecdotes/reflections could be about any of the following things:
- Your fondest memory about your Babusia
- Your Babtsia’s favourite saying
- Your Baba’s favourite home remedy
- Your Babtsia’s tastiest Ukrainian dishes and her secret ingredients
- Your Babusia’s favourite folktale or poem or song and what made it so special for her
- What your Baba loved most about Ukraine and/or Canada
- The funniest, happiest, saddest thing your Baba ever said to you
- What you love/loved most about your Babtsia
The audience will select its favourite anecdotes and prizes will be awarded to the winners.
We’ve also invited Gary Bobrovitz, long-time broadcast journalist with Global TV, to be our MC this year. Part of our program will include Gary guiding us through a photo-essay, Homage to Babas that will leave you beaming from ear to ear with the occasional tear trickling down in between.
Other pleasant surprises will also be in store for attendees of this very special event.
RSVP and pre-payment required by Wednesday, February 26th. But don’t wait until then. With much lower admission prices than in previous years, and a terrific new program, this year’s event promises to sell out very quickly.
